No yams, those are at the *other* side of the family. My grandfather detests them and refuses to have them anywhere near his meals. What you gonna do?

Commenting to add: I made a version of this to accompany Thanksgiving dinner (equal parts port and apple cider, since I didn't have that much sugar) and boy, it worked.
