Christmas Cookies

I'm always looking for a new cookie recipe and I think I found a new one.

It's Aarti Sequeira's Garam Masala-Chocolate Gingerbread . I'm only halfway through making them (the dough is chilling), but they taste so good it's not funny.

If you like Indian flavors or want to introduce someone to them, they're a pretty good method.

A friend just gave me a huge container of garam masala to use on roasted butternut squash...I was wondering what else I could use it for!

Circling back to let you know that I have made a batch of these with gluten-free flour blend (plus the usual gums--if anyone wants my variation, I'll be glad to share it) and they are FABULOUS.

I haven't even frosted my test cookies yet. They came out dark-dark-dark, crisp and light, and so deliciously spicy (the pepper in the garam masala is a wonderful touch). What a terrific recipe. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Glad to. I finally got around to frosting them tonight, and am finally tasting the finished product - they are simply amazing. I went with royal icing rather than the chocolate and it was a good idea.

Good to know. I did feel that they need the frosting to be a complete cookie experience. :D
