My father always used to love this type of pie - his grandmother made it for him when he was a kid. (My mother tried a number of recipes, but none of them consistently turned into pudding-on-the-bottom-and-cake-on-top; sometimes they'd just be cake-like all the way through.) Although my parents are both long since departed, I've got to try this pie!
