What do you do with exactly one pound / 0.5 kilograms of ground beef (mince beef)?

That depends on what other ingredients you have.

I'd suggest meatloaf (if you have onions, ketchup, and other spices), meatballs (if you have onions and breadcrumbs), or shepherd's pie (if you have potatoes, peas, corn, and spices).

Four hamburgers.
Meatloaf for four-five people.
Put half of it in the freezer (if not thawed from previously frozen) and put the other half in a casserole with veggies and tomato sauce; bake at 300 for an hour or so.
Brown it in a pan with onions and garlic and whatever you want and put it in the fridge for ready-made meat topping for whatever.

Brown in a largish pot. Add a diced bell pepper, a 28oz can of crushed tomatoes, spices to taste (I like basil, crushed red pepper flakes, and oregano). Cook 45 minutes or there about.

Now you have a homemade sauce that's very versatile. Put it over pasta, or spaghetti squash. Or, if you're feeling ambitious, make baked ziti or lasagne.

Meat for beef tacos
spaghetti with meat sauce
super nachos (ground beef, tomato, nacho cheese, onion, green chili, jalapenos, lettuce, sour cream...)
egg rolls (bean sprouts, browned ground beef, cabbage, carrots, onion rolled into a large egg roll wrapper)
meat loaf

There are so many things you can make with ground beef. Might also go to allrecipes.com, put ground beef into the ingredients search engine and see what comes up? :)

I would advise against a face mask.

More serious response: these are nice.

[Context marker: Australian; low income. I do a LOT with mince because it's cheap]

Well, my usual choices are:

* Bolognaise sauce for pasta;

* Chilli mince for nacho topping - take mince, brown with an onion and a couple of crushed cloves of garlic. If you have them, add half a red capsicum[1] and half a green capsicum, diced, to the browning mix. Once the mince is browned, and the onions are soft, add 1 - 2 sachets of taco seasoning and a teaspoon of beef stock powder, mix to combine. Stir in a jar of salsa, a can[2] of red kidney beans (drain and rinse before adding to the mix), and maybe a can[2] of diced tomatoes as well. Simmer until it reaches the consistency you like, then spoon over corn chips, top with cheese, and grill or heat in the oven until the cheese is melted.

* Sloppy joes (the recipe I use includes celery, onion, and half a green capsicum, and is meant to serve four people - add extra vegetables if you need to serve more than that).

* Lasagne equivalent - basically bolognaise sauce and cooked pasta in layers, topped with a bechamel or cheese sauce and a bit of cheese, and then bake in the oven.

* Cottage pie/Shepherd's pie (add about 1 cup of frozen mixed vegetables to the mince mixture per 2 people you're serving, and top with mashed spud)

* Sang Choy Bow - fry up your mince with some garlic and ginger, mix in finely chopped mushrooms, celery, Asian greens and a bit of soy sauce (and any other Asian-style flavouring sauces you have on hand) and serve in lettuce cups.

* Meatballs or rissoles (serve with vegetables or salad, or added to pasta, or whatever).

* Fillings for dumplings, ravioli, tortellini or similar.

* Meat pies & pasties (I'm Australian. Do you *really* think I'm going to forget the meat pie from the list?)

Most of the recipes I'm giving here do at least four servings, and could probably stretch to six if you add in a salad or some vegetables and a bunch of bread rolls as sides.

[1] Capsicum = bell pepper
[2] 440g can size is pretty standard here in Australia.

Unless you want to deter people from ever ringing your doorbell again ...

Serious response: I would tend to go for cooking with onions and garlic and bell peppers and harissa (I can't eat tomatoes but they'd be an obvious choice here), then add to pasta or some other starchy thing. Or lots of green leafy stuff if I'm not feeling starch-inclined.

You could whip up a double batch of Joe's Special... or the other thing you could do with eggs as an addition, Loco Moco... (for those not familiar with Hawaiian food, think something akin to Salisbury steak, with the gravy, topped with a fried egg... )

Oh, jeez. CHILI! or Sloppy Joes...

On a technicality, but "exactly one pound" is 454 grammes, not 500.

A bit behind here, but often when there just doesn't seem to be anything else, or I'm feeling particularly lazy, I'll brown it up and add it to a couple boxes of macaroni and cheese.
