In an effort to see if anyone's still following, what is your favorite dish to eat/make and why?

Of my father's food, I love German potato salad, but my house won't eat it. But it's delicious, and something that my father only broke out for major barbecues.

Of my culture's food, I love frybread (and don't make it because I'm not sure I could handle the disappointment of discovering it doesn't work gluten free). I grew up with it at major events, potlach, and it's pretty much one of my favorite forms of bread.

Me, too! I tend to play around with versions, too, adding different kinds of veggies, or chillis, etc.

Me, too, once upon a time. Now I make the same version every time. After 20 years, I can practically make it in my sleep.

Peruvian Chicken Soup. My only changes are to use a bigger chicken (no chickens as small as 2.5 lbs. in my markets) brown rice (more nutritious) and an entire bag of frozen veggies because 1/2 cup for 8 cups of liquid is way too little. It's easy, tastes good and feeds my family for a couple of days.

And here I thought I was going to be a weirdo by picking soup! I will definitely have to try the blended cilantro idea - that's genius.

Once a week I buy a rotisserie chicken and eat the white meat, then cook the rest of it for stock and use all the dark meat in the resulting soup. I like dark meat so much better when it's really thoroughly stewed.
