Recipe ideas
Jun. 6th, 2010 07:31 pmMy nan and grandad are coming over this week for lunch and I'm not sure what to make them.
My nan likes pasta, chinese food etc, but my grandad is a very meat-potatoes-and-veg type of person.
Ideas?
I do have a slow cooker but it hasn't actually been used yet so I'm wary about using that.
EDIT: Thanks for all the suggestions! A lot of good ideas there. I think I'm gonna make corned beef hash this time.

on 2010-06-06 07:00 pm (UTC)Strips of steak, marinated in something vaguely Asian but inoffensive (soy sauce, garlic, a little bit of ginger), then grilled on skewers.
Oven-roasted potato wedges with whatever herbs you can get away with.
and/or
Good crusty rolls or bread, or else an interesting flatbread like pitas, flour tortillas or naan.
Any suitable "tubular" green vegetable (asparagus, broccoli, even green beans) stir-fried quickly in olive oil with just a bit of garlic and a little salt. You may combine two or more vegetables if that'll work - carrots sliced very thinly on a very long diagonal will go with most green things, and make the dish more colorful. (Stir-fry the carrot slices first, over very high heat; if they brown very slightly, they'll taste sweeter. Then lower the heat a bit and throw in the green veg.)
