A vegan friend of mine left a package of store-bought seitan strips in my fridge after visiting recently. I've never tried seitan, but I'm game for anything (also the contents of my fridge are looking a little sparse). However, I have absolutely no idea what to do with the stuff, and most of the recipes I'm finding online are telling me how to make seitan, which isn't helpful at all.

Any suggestions on what I can do with my newfound supply of wheat meat?

Thanks in advance!

Flavor-wise, they work pretty well in any stir-fry recipe calling for beef. I also love them in fajitas. They're already cooked, so all you need to do is saute them enough so that they get a little brown and crisp around the edges.

BARBECUE SAUCE. ALL THE BBQ SAUCE.

Alternately, I've made cheese steaks with them--fry up, add some onions and peppers (or mushrooms if you aren't a traditionalist), cheese and bread, the best.

Seitan is awesome. Curse my wife being gluten free...

This recipe calls for tempeh, but I think seitan would be a fine substitute. I've made it quite often and it's delicious!

Alas, I haven't any recipes... But I have a comment nonetheless.

I use a screen reader. It pronounces seitan as Satan... So I woundered for a while there how you got Satan in your fridge. XD

But now that I know it's not the Devil himself, I'd like to try it too.

LOL I know it. And you're welcome. i was beginning to vaguely wonder if the package had small flames on it or something. :P

Maybe the slogan could be "Seitan! It's hellishly good!" or something. XD

hm! my go-to thing to do with fake meat of any sort is usually to stir fry. use strong flavors! onions, garlic, black bean sauce, etc. :)
