Christmas Cake ~ Forget everything you think you know about fruitcake, this is what fruitcake should be. This has none of that nasty commerical candied fake dyed "citron and peels" Instead you use real dried fruits and nuts, fresh spices and a moist cake.  It smells fantastic and tastes even better.  This will make even fruitcake haters ask for seconds. :)

This recipe was given to me by my daughter, but it has been pointed out that it is similar to if not identical to Alton Brown's recipe. It may well have originally been his. Honestly, I don't know. All I do know is that this is good. So happy cooking.

This is my Nonna's (mother's mother) recipe for Easter Bread that both my mom and I make every year. It has been converted from the original metric to American weights and measures.

I posted this a few days ago in my own journal, and I thought I should share this here.  This is more a methodology than a recipe, so there's lots of room for personal variation.  There are other ways to make gravy that's totally vegetarian, but this is my favourite.

I made this for our feast-day sweet potato dish, and I daresay it was one of the tastiest parts of the spread. Actually, [personal profile] luminosity gets most of the credit for this for suggesting it to me.

I came up with this salad for a holiday dinner last year. I liked it so much that this year, I made it to serve to people outside my actual family, and they seemed to really enjoy it, too!

Because what's autumn without the chance to really heat up your kitchen with a delicious, well-brined and roasted turkey breast? Especially one that looks like this one?

I use a turkey breast because really, I can't keep my kitchen cool enough to brine the whole bird, so get one small enough to stick in your fridge in a big stockpot.
I guess I should really put this behind a cut, it does get long. but fun! and tasty! how many characters does it take to make me quit typing? )
Then you may uncover and glory in your delicious turkey breast.

Happy Nomming!

PS. I don't know about ya'll, but it took me and my boyfriend a week to eat through this sucker. We ate turkey sandwiches, and turkey alfredo, turkey salad, turkey in salad, turkey on top of cheese pizza and of course, turkey straight out of the tupperware. Om nom nom.

I really only have one recipe that's unusual, but it's always a big hit.

This came about when all my relatives were still alive, and having holiday dinners at my house. One wanted chopped apples in the stuffing, another wanted chestnuts and sausage meat, another wanted cornbread stuffing... and I never liked bread stuffing very much in the first place. So I invented something different.

These are the Best Ginger Cookies Ever. Though I could be a tad biased ;) This is from an old family recipe, and I don't know precisely where Gramps got it. Possibly his Swedish grandmother.

*waves* Hi. I just joined and thought I'd bring a treat. My family tried this for their Passover Sedar this year and loved it so much they pestered me over and over and over that I HAD to make it for my own Sedar. To say it was a hit is putting it mildly. It's a chocolate cake that lies somewhere in the no man's land between fudge and flourless chocolate cake.
